Australian Futsal Association is delighted to confirm the coaching team for the upcoming U17 Boys International Futsal Alliance World Cup. The head coach will be Greg Coombes of Queensland, assisted by Romeo Frediani of Tasmania. The duo will lead Australia's defence of the title in China this August.
Coombes is a stalwart of the AFA coaching scene having led Queensland regional teams at an astonishing 20 national tournaments on the trot. He has five national titles to his name, between National School Futsal Championships and National Club Futsal Championships. Overseas, he has previously taken Australian sides to China and Malaysia.
Frediani is rewarded with the position after his outstanding work in Tasmania. Despite the limited player pool and travelling challenges, under his leadership Tasmanian teams continue to reach the latter stages of national tournaments on a regular basis. He has also enjoyed national success on the university futsal scene.
CEO Alistair Miller said: "Greg and Romeo are two outstanding talents within our pool of coaches. We are delighted to give them this opportunity to challenge themselves on the world stage."
At the time of writing, the selection committee is currently casting their eye over the players at National Club Futsal Championships, with a view to selecting the U17 IFA World Cup squad later this month.
