Australian Futsal Association is delighted to announce the launch of a brand new league setup, arriving in Queensland for the summer 2019 season. The South Queensland Futsal League will launch later this year and provide an exciting new playing opportunity for futsal clubs and players, established and new.
The league will run from October until December, with a double header of games played every other Saturday. The first year will be open to U8/10/12/14 Boys and U14 Girls. Whilst many of the clubs will train on a weekly basis, that will be at the discretion of each.
Matches will be played at central venues, meaning each Saturday will become a feast of SQFL futsal and players can enjoy the best facilities in the state. The league is expected to be particularly popular amongst schools looking to take their futsal program to the next level.
It is also set to be a big hit with soccer clubs. As they approach the off season, the new initiative is a perfect fit. It provides an extension to their player development, with all of the benefits that come from the highly technical, high intensity game of futsal. In addition to this, it keeps the group of players together, building cohesion and improving the chances of player retention. League coordinator Amanda Wenzel said: "The response so far has been fantastic. We are excited to see clubs that will be competing in AFA competitions for the first time and look forward to testing themselves against some of the more established futsal clubs. In addition to a competitive league, it will also give these players the chance to join the AFA pathway, with national tournaments and international selection at stake." Do you have a group of players that would like to compete? Would you like to find out more about becoming a club in the inaugural SQFL? AFA would like to hear from you.
